Just when I finally figured out the proper work-life balance, we've been called back to this bullshit.
What was an honest 8 - 12 hour work day has now been morphed into a 14 plus hour day and I swear I only get about 4 hours of work done now that I am back in the office.
Now, don't get me wrong; I do understand that there are a large majority of people who took advantage of working from the comfort of their home so much so, that they were out and about just making sure the green light was on. HOWEVER, I was never one of those WFH employees. I woke up, worked out, got dressed for work, logged in early to get a jump start on the day before others logged on, ate breakfast, then worked 2-3 hours before taking a 10-minute break to stretch, completed that cycle during the day and always, and I repeat ALWAYS logged off after 5 PM.
Now?!
My bags be packed at 4:45 PM SHARP because I need to get on the train no later than 5:05 to make it home before 6:30 pm and that's on a smooth day. Don't let the train be fucked up and crowded...
This shit is exhausting but again, I understand that people took advantage of a good thing so now we all have to pay the price.
It would have been nice if someone had vetted this process and only called back the underachievers since 2020. Let the over-achievers stay home, we flourished in our own environments and the ROI had to be great for business so why not let us go back to the way things were?
Now, I put in a good solid 4 hours of work because I spend the other 4 hours wondering, "Why the fuck am I here?"
I have to arrive no later than 8 in the morning just so I can have some time to myself before this broad named Barbara come in here talking about shit that I don't want to listen to... SMH. I have less than 5 minutes to wrap this venting up before Barbara arrives. 😒
Before I go, hear my plea:
Dear #Elon,
Is there any way you can reconsider this by encouraging corporate America to take a look at the productivity of all employees before urging us ALL to come back to the office? As a hard worker, the office culture is killing my drive. I miss enjoying getting work done, now ALL I look forward to is pretending I give 2 shits about small talk... I am drained and really want to enjoy WORKING! I know you don't know me, but think about it - for me and others like me.
Respectfully,
MP
